White Gold

White Gold is Gold mixed with white metal alloys to produce its white tone. The natural color of Gold is yellow; therefore White Gold will contain yellow undertones. This causes the White Gold to be not as brilliantly white as its other alternative. A common solution is plate the outer finish of a ring with Rhodium. This will require routine maintenance as Rhodium plating wears off easily. Maintenance usually requires plating the ring again with Rhodium and every time White Gold is polished, a trace amount of the Gold is polished off. Over time the ring will be lighter in weight, thinner and consist of less material. White Gold is a precious metal but not hypoallergenic due to its white metal alloy composition.
